FAQs on ergonomics
Ergonomics is playing an increasingly important role in office work in particular - but also in other areas, especially "assembly line work". The reason for this is obvious: working incorrectly can make you ill in the long term. To counteract this, various ergonomics guidelines have now been drawn up. Employers are now even required by law to comply with them. Office and production work often have one thing in common: an extreme lack of movement.
If your employees can concentrate fully on their work because they are not constantly distracted by fatigue, neck tension or back pain, they will also work faster. This benefits both your employees and the company: According to a study by the Frauenhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering in Stuttgart, German companies incur an annual loss of around 35 million euros due to absenteeism and reduced productivity caused by back pain alone. Reduced absenteeism due to better employee health therefore also benefits a company's profitability. Take action and invest in height-adjustable desks, as this will save you money in the long term while investing in the health of your employees and offering an attractive workplace.
Regular exercise is very important for your health - but it cannot fully compensate for long, uninterrupted periods of sitting. Studies show that sitting for hours on end slows down the metabolism, impairs blood circulation and puts one-sided strain on muscles and joints. Even if you go jogging or to the gym after work, you are already subject to these sitting-related stresses.
This means that movement at short, regular intervals during the working day is crucial. Even small interruptions such as standing up, walking around, relaxation exercises or working standing up can help to relieve the strain on circulation, muscles and concentration. Sport remains a valuable counterbalance - but is no substitute for ergonomic workplace design and consciously breaking up long periods of sitting.
The correct desk height is determined by your individual body measurements. The lengths of your lower leg, torso and upper arm play a role here. Body height alone is not decisive. For three people of the same height, three different desk heights can make ergonomic sense.
The starting position for determining the correct desk height when seated is the medium, upright sitting position. Now select the height setting that allows you to relax your shoulder and neck muscles. Your forearm should now either rest horizontally on the desk or fall slightly towards your wrist. The angle between your upper and lower arm is therefore 90° or slightly more.
You can tell that your desk is set too low if you tend to slip into a hunched-back posture. Remember, too low a height puts too much pressure on your wrists, which can turn simple typing on the keyboard into a tiring ordeal after a few hours of work.
The correct desk height when standing is determined by your height, i.e. the height to your shoulder joint minus the length of your upper arm. The following test is similar to the previous one for setting the desk height when seated.
Stand close to the desk in an upright position, i.e. with your back straight, and make sure you put equal weight on the soles of both feet. Again, choose the position that allows you to relax your shoulder and neck muscles. The forearm either rests horizontally on the desk or slopes slightly towards the wrist. Please note: The angle between the upper arm and forearm should not be less than 90°.
Please bear this in mind: Only sitting and only standing is unfavorable. Instead, alternate between different positions several times a day - your back will thank you for it.
FAQs on gas lift solutions
Our gas lift frame systems are versatile. They are used in the office as height-adjustable desks, in the living or dining area as side tables, in lounges, in the education sector, in the care sector and in the caravanning sector. In short: wherever independent and stepless height adjustment is required.
In the office sector, our frames can cover all standard desk sizes. As a rule, everything from 1200mm to 2000mm long and 600-1000mm deep table tops can be produced. Special dimensions are also possible. Just get in touch with us. Please use the contact form.
Our frames are available in various profile cross-sections:
- Square (Q70/71, Q80)
- Rectangular (S94/95)
- Round (R70/71, R40) – only for single-column systems
Many variants are also available in an upside-down version, where the column tapers downwards. This style is also known as the "Scandinavian style". Further information on the available profile variants can be found on the respective product pages of our website.
Gas lift solutions offer maximum flexibility: they work completely independently without a power connection, can be adjusted quickly and continuously in height and can be used anywhere - whether in the office, at home, in care settings or on the road in a caravan. This eliminates the need for cables, sockets and location restrictions. Electromotorized table frames, on the other hand, always require a power supply and cannot be adjusted in height so quickly.
Gaslift racks are a flexible, sustainable and ergonomic alternative to electric motorized racks. They work completely without electricity and can therefore be used immediately and anywhere - without cables, without noise and without ongoing operating costs.
The most important advantages at a glance:
- Independent of the power grid - no sockets, no cables, no electronic waste.
- Low maintenance - no regular inspection costs in accordance with DGUV V3.
- Ergonomic - the quick, stepless height adjustment allows you to adjust the desk height intuitively: you stand up with the desk and sit down with it again. This makes it easier and more ergonomic for your employees to work.
- Flexible & mobile - easy to move, versatile and ready to go.
- Sustainable - durable and resource-saving thanks to the absence of electronics.
Both frames work without electricity using gas spring technology and enable quiet, stepless height adjustment. The difference lies in the payload adjustment:
LIFT is supplied with a fixed spring force - ideal if the table load (payload) is known in advance and remains approximately constant.
FLEXILIFT has the FLEXI feature: the spring force in the system can be readjusted by the user at any time using a crank. This means that the frame can be flexibly adapted to changing loads (e.g. heavy equipment or partitions).
No, this is currently not possible. Precise synchronization of the lifting columns is required for our Gaslift frames. A design with three columns, as would be necessary for L-shaped applications, cannot be implemented.
Yes, our gas lift solutions for the office sector comply with either type A or type D of the standard, depending on the design.
Height of office desks in accordance with DIN EN 527-1:2011

The payload of our systems varies from product to product. The respective permissible payload can be found in the technical data sheet. You will soon find the technical data sheets for our products in the download area of the website.
Yes, as a rule, gas struts of different strengths can be installed to cover a wide range of payloads. In the same way, different installation heights and adjustment ranges can also be realized. Just get in touch with us. Please use the contact form.
In the office sector, our frames can cover all standard desk sizes. As a rule, everything from 1200mm to 2000mm long and 600-1000mm deep table tops can be displayed. As a rule, we always assume a 25 mm thick melamine resin-coated chipboard for the specified values. If, for example, a real wood top is used, the gas pressure spring may have to be made thicker at the factory to achieve optimum ease of use. Simply contact us about this. Please use the contact form.
A column with plastic sliding guide moves via sliding contact between the column and plastic rail. It offers quiet and low-maintenance operation.
A column with roller or ball guides works via rolling elements that enable very smooth height adjustment of the column. This technology also allows the use of larger/heavier table tops, but is generally more expensive than a column with a plastic sliding guide.
Our gas lift solutions are particularly reliable and significantly less prone to faults than electrical alternatives. Their robust and sophisticated mechanics work without motors, electronics or power connections - typical defects such as control problems, motor failures or blocked drives do not even occur here. As a result, they are virtually maintenance-free and remain stable and easy to operate even after many years.
